Choice of a new generation? Pepsi (yep) announces Android smartphone in China

In an unlikely turn of events, the Pepsi Phone P1 is the a forthcoming new Android smartphone from the soft drink company.

Appearing on the Chinese crowdfunding site JD Finance, the Pepsi Phone P1 has a 3m Yuan goal, which’ll need to be met in a couple of weeks.

So what’s Pepsi offering in a phone? Nothing too exciting, it seems, but not awful either.

The phone has a 5.5-inch, Full HD display and runs on an octa-core MediaTek MT6792 processor backed up by 2GB of RAM.

It’s powered by a 3,000mAh battery and features a 13MP rear cam and a 5MP front-facer.

The biggest draw is the price of this 4G LTE phone: early backers can get it for 699 Yuan (US$109), and it will retail for 1,299 (US$200) upon release.
